An unbelievable opportunity

I just want to share with you that I’ve been given an unbelievable opportunity to teach a class at the Lost Art Press storefront this summer, and honestly, I’m still pinching myself.

If you follow me on Instagram, you probably know that I’ve caught the wooden plane bug pretty hard. For me, it’s never enough to own a thing, I have to understand it, and a large part of how I understand things is by learning to make them myself.

If that sounds like your process as well, you may be interested in joining me during the weekend of July 21-22 as I lead a class of six students in building traditionally styled laminated wooden foreplanes.

I’ve found that this wedge and pin style plane works, looks and feels like a traditional fore plane, but it requires no specialized plane making tools, so it’s a great way to get into the world of wooden handplanes. As a bonus, the skills you will learn in this class can be applied across the board to building planes of other sizes as well. We’ll focus on getting the bed angles dialed in and fitting each plane to the user, so the plane you take home will be as individual as you are.

Registration for the class is free, and is limited to 6 students (the waitlist is enabled, though, so if you’re interested, be sure to sign up for it). Registrants will be invoiced for the $250 class fee and additional materials fee of $115.

Registration opens on Monday 2/12 at 9am

Class details are available here.
