Stickley style

After posting this picture of my “home office” on Instagram I’ve recieved some comments and questions about the book stand next to my desk.

Here’s a better shot:

The piece in question was built by me last year based on a design found in Gustav Stickley’s catalog as part of a series of projects he put forth as “Home Training in Cabinet Work.” This is from the fourth part of that series and is available as a free PDF. Look for the “magazine cabinet.”

The whole series is available here and when you peruse it you can see that it is intended (in some ways like The Joiner and Cabinet Maker) to build upon basic skills in earlier exercises to help individuals interested in learning the skills to progress from birdhouses to constructing furniture for their own houses.

It is a nice piece and a fun project that can be made entirely collapsible if you like.
