oil can

There is a liminal space between projects that I really enjoy. A day of sharpening and oiling. A day to tear things down so that I can build them up. A day to lubricate my creativity.

I’m getting  ready to really put my new bench to work. My middle daughter needs a chest of drawers and that need has inspired me to start working through the projects in The Joiner and Cabinetmaker. As I’m currently taking the time to read through the construction section of the book, today seemed like a good day to take a cue from our young apprentice Thomas and get my tools in top shape before moving on.

I love a bench full of shiny tools and the smell of 3-in-1 in the air.

  1. Glad to see you’re jumping on Joiner & Cabinetmaker as well, Jim.

Every January I promise myself that this will be the year I work through the projects in J&CM. Maybe 2016 will finally be the year!

Looking forward to watching your progress through these projects!

I’ve also been meaning to do this for quite some time. Now that I’ve almost got the essentials complete (bench and tool chest), perhaps I’ll finally dig into it and start that packing box.

Time I learned how to clench a nail.
